New site 95% there
Well, the construction of our new community website is almost done.
I'll be putting a redirection page up on the old domain name soon (theheads.net.au) to direct traffic here - it's taken longer than anticipated, even with WordPress making this kind of site a breeze to construct. I wanted it to be right before opening it up to the public.
Most of the problems have been not only with getting the site to display correctly when viewed by people running their PCs on lower than normal screen resolutions (see my article about this here) - but also trying to ensure it works correctly in the most commonly-used web browsers too.
I prefer Firefox myself (as do many people) but as Internet Exploder (no it's not a typo) is still the most commonly used browser out there I had to ensure all was well with this one too. Mostly, this has been successful - the only 'glitch' has been a clever 'plug-in' that I use on the site called the Events Calendar. While it works fine in all browsers I have tested it on so far (Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Firefox and Opera), in IE6 it throws up a javascript error (ie: 'Done but with errors on page'). I'll try and ask the author of the plug-in to look into it, but for now users of this web browser (which most shouldn't be using now anyway as it's so insecure) will have to put up with the small error message.
Edit: I found another 'bug' so here's the current ones that I know about (I'll address them as I can):
1. 'Done but with errors on page' message in Internet Explorer 6 and 7 - under review, appears to be a script error with the event calendar plug in - page loads fine anyway.
2. Visitors using IE7 (Internet Explorer 7) are unable to vote on the polls - appears to be a known 'Ajax» IE7 bug. I'll have to look into an alternative Polls plug-in if it isn't sorted soon. Damn Microsoft.
