fishingclublogoThe June Weigh In was held on Sunday, 28th of June with a much better weekend of weather for fishing resulting in some spectacular results. There were 57 fish caught at a total weight of 56.3kilo, averaging almost 1kilo per fish. Has that ever happened before?.

James Thomas, Jim Hyland and our illustrious Cookie had a great day amongst the Kingies. Jim latched onto 5 weighing a massive 15.35kilo winning him the Men’s Deep Sea and Heaviest catch. He also caught the biggest fish with a 5.42kilo Kingfish. James Thomas caught 4 at 10.78kilo and was Deep Sea runner up. Cookie found 3 at 8.55kilo. Not a bad day for the boys and James tells me that they caught them all off the Jetty using green prawns for bait (believe it or not).

Russel Kent caught a nice fish weighing 2.05kilo and Jack Gazzard caught 6 fish weighing 5kilo including a nice 3.4 kilo Kingfish.

Rhonda Crane caught 10 fish at 3.5kilo and she won the Ladies Deep Sea while Hubby John found 16 at 6.25 kilo including an excellent 575gram Pigfish which is about as big as a Piggy gets and a 1.275kilo Morwong.

The Estuary was missing Mary and Tom Ahling and Colleen and Rudi Bochdal this weekend. We haven’t received absentee notes yet but they better have good reasons for not going fishing, however Darren Roberts caught a couple of fish in the river weighing 600grams and he was runner up while Murray Waetford pulled up 9 fish at 2.4kilo winning him the Estuary. Murray tells me that he spent all day Saturday chasing fish all over the river for 1 fish and a couple of hours in front of the boat ramp on Sunday morning among the moored boats for the other 8. Just goes to show, you never know. Jim Webster spent 4 hours on the beach on Saturday morning and 2 hour on the jetty, Saturday afternoon and is still waiting for his first bite.

The mystery fish was a Gurnard and Murray Waetford caught one to win the $50. How many Gurnard have been weighed in over the years. Not many I bet.

Junior heaviest catch and heaviest flathead went to Jai Roberts.

God knows neither of these blokes needs any encouragement but the encourage awards went to Jack Gazzard and John Crane.

Next Weigh In will be on Sunday 26th July and while everything else is going up the price of meals at our weigh ins for members has dropped to $3.00 and free tea and coffee will be back on from next weigh in.

This year AGM will be held from 10.30am on the 9th of August in the annex followed by our 2009 dinner and presentation at 12 mid day in the function room. Meals will be catered for by The Longboard Bistro and tickets will be on sale from Saturday 11th July at the Fishing Club raffle.
