FISHING CLUB : JANUARY 2009 WEIGH IN
The first weigh in for 2009 saw some great weather and plenty of fish. The menu gave a choice of fish or rissoles and they were both lovely. Chef, Paul Bounds, looked resplendent in his apron but we unable to get a picture. Maybe next month.
The weekend saw 17 fisherpeople hit the water with a total of 84 fish being caught weighing in at 31.4 Kilo. The best being a .340 kilo Whiting and a .900 kilo flathead both caught by Rudi Bochdal.
A 2.359 kilo Salmon was caught of the beach by Garry Tyquin which won him the heaviest fish and also Mens Beach and rock. He should be able to get it cooked well because his mum is a chef at the Heads hotel.
Rhonda and John Crane braved the rough seas to fish outside and Rhonda caught 6 fish weighing in at 1.55 kilo giving her the ladies deep sea and John grabbed 8 for 2.450 kilo and mens deep sea runner up. James Thomas caught 2 fish weighing .950 kilo with Jack Gazzard and Jim Webster also hitting the high seas with Jack getting 3 at .800 kilo and Jim winning the mens deep sea with 10 fish weighing 2.500 kilo.
Hard working Steve Woodlands hit the chocolate machine and took out the big prize for the biggest catch of chocolates. Being the smart businessman that he is he spent $4.oo to get $1.80 worth of chocolates.
Darren Roberts fished the estuary and managed a fish weighing 300 grams while Fred Roberts missed out. Murray Waterfood caught four fish in the river at 550 grams.
Tom Ahling got his usual bag of blackfish and some really nice fish amongst them with 7 fish at 3.400 kilo and his wife Mary getting 2 for 700 grams. Alana Wateford caught 2 nice fish weighing 650 gram. She also won the encouragement award.
Champion estuary fisherman Rudi Bochdale did it again with a catch of 22 good fish weighing 9.55 kilo and of course got the mens estuary and also the heaviest catch. His wife Colleen, who taught Rudi all he knows, caught 11 fish for 4.050 kilo and won the ladies estuary. Junior heaviest catch went to Jai Watford with 3 fish weighing 1 kilo. Junior fisherman Johna, who caught 2 fish at 650 gram, dead heated for the heaviest Junior flathead at 450 gram each.
Each month there are two encouragement awards consisting of a $20 voucher at the local butcher. The first was won by Alana Watford and the second by Jack Gazzard. I’ve never seen anyone so overjoyed about 2 Kilo of sausages as Jack’s wife Marion was.
The lucky door prize of Fifty dollars was one by June Franks. We’re still waiting for her to shout.
Next Weigh In will be on Sunday 22nd Febuary, so come along and have some fun.
