We had an unexpected visitor this evening at the Jerry Bailey Oval - a Navy Sea King helicopter made a landing on our local playing field to check a possible fuel leak apparently.
After checking things over (and leaving most of the crew behind to travel back to Albatross by car!) the chopper was pronounced fit to fly and took off after sunset as you can see below.
Gave the locals something to watch besides the telly (the sandflies had a feast too..) and the spectacle was enjoyed by all.
A pity they couldn’t have taken off just a little earlier as the light was getting very low for the camera to take a decent video!
Takes a bit to impress a ‘child of the sixties’ musically these days, but the first audition by Danyl Johnson on the X Factor sent a shiver down my spine - did you catch it on Seven this morning?
If you missed it - click the image to the left to watch it on YouTube. I can’t find one that has ‘embedding’ allowed unfortunately, but the image links to the video.
I remember going to the movies to see Joe Cocker in ‘Mad Dogs & Englishmen’ when I was around 16 and never forgot the experience. read more…
I don’t know how often these creatures visit our beach but Pete Izzard has captured some great footage of the most recent! Thanks for putting it up on YouTube Pete.
I remember way back in 1977 (was it REALLY that long ago?) going to see the first Star Wars movie three times - now they do look a little dated even I must admit.
Of course, we were all huge fans of the original Star Trek series and I have seen most of the movies too.
I haven’t been quite so impressed this year with Australia’s Got Talent, but the pommie show has as usual come up with some quite amazing acts this year and two are YouTube sensations.
Firstly, Susan Boyle made a wonderful first impression on the judges and tonight on the news was the hugely funny ‘Stavros Flately’ act.
Neither of these videos can be embedded - but if you want to watch them, here’s the links to them.
I’m a big YouTube fan, but I’d be the first to admit that most of the stuff on there, especially the ‘Most Watched’Â ones, leaves me wondering if there’s any intelligent life on the planet.
But every so often there are little gems to be found like these.
If you find something worth letting the rest of us know about - sorry, I don’t mean ‘Watch this guy doing 150km in a 50km zone. LOL’ and the like - just some great, watchable videos. Please, do let me know.
I found this brief, but good promotional video called ‘Shoalhaven Experience’ on YouTube. Not a bad promo of our region and something that locals could send their overseas relatives the link to so they can see for themselves where we live!
This is the community website for Shoalhaven Heads, a small village on the beautiful south coast of N.S.W, Australia. It is designed and maintained by Andy Turner, a local who believes 'The Heads' deserves it's own place on the web.
Britain's present royal family was originally named Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. The name was changed in 1917, during WW1 because of German connotations. The name Windsor was suggested by one of the staff. At the same time the family name of the cousins to the Windsors, Battenberg, was changed to Mountbatten.
MAY 1 1866 - The Government Ferry began operating across the Shoalhaven River from Nowra to Bomaderry. The approaches were washed away by tides and sometimes vehicles had to await the tide before they could cross. Each flood threw it out of action.
