fishingclublogoThe June Weigh In was held on Sunday, 28th of June with a much better weekend of weather for fishing resulting in some spectacular results. There were 57 fish caught at a total weight of 56.3kilo, averaging almost 1kilo per fish. Has that ever happened before?.

James Thomas, Jim Hyland and our illustrious Cookie had a great day amongst the Kingies. Jim latched onto 5 weighing a massive 15.35kilo winning him the Men’s Deep Sea and Heaviest catch. He also caught the biggest fish with a 5.42kilo Kingfish. James Thomas caught 4 at 10.78kilo and was Deep Sea runner up. Cookie found 3 at 8.55kilo. Not a bad day for the boys and James tells me that they caught them all off the Jetty using green prawns for bait (believe it or not). read more…

Extremely poor weather conditions spoiled another fishing weekend. Because of heavy seas there were no deep sea fisherman this weekend, in fact, we only had two brave souls that ventured onto the water at all. Rudi Bochdal and Tom Ahling. Between them they caught 11 fish weighing a total of 8.9kilo.

Rudi caught 9 fish weighing 8.3kilo, including the Jewie which he won heaviest fish for and a good Flathead. He captured Mens Estuary and Heaviest catch. Tom with 2 fish at 600 grams received estuary runner up. The mystery fish was a Snapper which obviously was not caught. read more…

The April “Weigh In” was held on Sunday 26th April in the Jerry Bailey Room. For the most part the weekend was a disaster. It was blowing a gale and the seas were to big for anyone to venture outside, therefore there were no deepsea fishermen.

However we did have a few hardy souls attack the river. There was a total of 20 fish caught at a weight of 8.03kilo.

As usual, Rudi Bochdal topped the count with 13 fish at 5.3kilo winning him Estuary and the heaviest catch. His wife Collen hooked 2 fish at .650grams and she took out the ladies estuary. read more…

During the month we lost one of our older members, Loy Craven. The members of the fishing club offer their heartfelt sympathy to Jack and his family. A nicer two people than Loy and Jack Craven do not exist and Loy will be be sadly missed by many friends in Shoalhaven Heads.

Sunday, 29th of March saw our March Weigh In happen. For the first time the food was catered for by the new “Longboard Bistro”. You can never please all the people all the time, however most where impressed with the feed we received and for $5 you won’t get better anywhere.

On Saturday the 14th March , Shoalhaven Heads Sports and Social Fishing Club held their first get together of the year. We usually have four of these a year and if you didn’t attend you are about to discover what you missed out on.

Dinner was catered for by the club’s new “Long Board Bistro” and consisted of all the prawns  and chicken you could comfortably eat and heaps of beautiful salad. I never heard one complaint on the day and why would you at $10 a head. All you have to do is join and you to can enjoy.

If this wasn’t enough, we were entertained by the lovely Jody Yates. Not only does she have a wonderful voice, she is a fantastic performer and can sing anything from Vera Lynn to Becki Cole and everything in between. Beside all that she is extremely good eye candy for both young and old. If you get the chance and haven’t seen Jody perform DO NOT miss her.  The entertainment didn’t finish with Jody. We were treated to an impromptu performance by the great Stompin’ Stevie (the big bopper) Woodland. We saw a wonderful duet with the legendary rocker and Jody.

FEBRUARY ‘09 WEIGH IN

President Col Hokin

President Col Hokin

On Sunday 22nd of February we had our February Weigh In. It was a rather disappointing roll up and I suspect that the fact that the last Sunday of the month was on the 22nd caught a few off guard. Although only 9 people fished there was still 78 fish caught, weighing in at 27.89kilo, not a bad result , all considered. A few of the best was a 540 gram Bream caught by Rudi Bochdal, Jim Webster hooked a 460 gram Flathead but Colleen Bochdal topped the scales with a nice Flatty at 770 grams.

Salmon

A 2.359 kilo Salmon was caught of the beach by Garry Tyquin which won him the heaviest fish and also Mens Beach and rock. He should be able to get it cooked well because his mum is a chef at the Heads hotel. read more…
