U3aIntellectual activity, the achievement of learning something new & the stimulus of new ideas, are as important as physical activity as we age.

For the past 20 years, the Shoalhaven University of the Third Age (U3A) has played an important role in providing mental stimulation after retirement.

It offers approximately 100 Courses in a 4-term calendar year, ranging from one-off, 2 hour sessions on almost any topic, to 8 week language (French, German, Latin), watercolour painting etc. Many of the tutors are members - with a wealth of knowledge to share - but speakers from outside sources also provide valuable information on health, safety, medical, optical, legal etc. issues for seniors.

A variety of light-hearted & social Courses is also on offer, including a Lunch Club, Singing for Fun, Classical Music, Book Talk & Screening of Movie Classics.

Currently, members pay a joining fee of $1, an annual fee of $10 & are invited to attend any Course at a minimal cost of $4 for a one-off. Prospective members should not be deterred by the term “University” - there are no academic prerequisites to join - & no tests!
