p5010044-customDoes the council know something about global warming that we don’t?? Does anybody have any idea what this large tide measuring pole that has recently appeared by the river, well, I hadn’t noticed it, maybe I’m just unobservant, is all about? I’m presuming that’s what the purpose of it is but if I were more into UFOs and the like maybe I could come up with an alternative explanation.

It is around 6 or 7 metres high and has reflective red markers set at around 4 and 5 METRES above the usual high tide level.

I wouldn’t like to hazard a guess as to what a tide 4 metres above normal would do let alone a 5 metre one…

Now, I know we should all be concerned with global warming - but the projected sea level increases are expected to be in the region of 0.5 metre over the next 30 years not 5 bloody metres! Maybe someone on the council is mathematically-challenged.

So, if anyone knows about the pole and what it’s there for (apart from scaring the locals silly), please let me know in the comments below.
