FISHING CLUB : Chinaman Pete’s Huge Jewey

Remember this face.
If you see him at dusk on the beach, say hullo.
It is Chinaman Pete, Shoalhaven Heads best Beach fisherman. There is nothing he can’t teach you.
Peter caught this Jewfish last Thursday night off Shoalhaven Heads beach. Something he regularly does. If you want to learn beach fishing, ask Pete. read more…
Jim Webster has very kindly become a website contributor and has recently completed his first fishing club news article. Great article and he’s done very well with the photos too. Welcome aboard Jim!
Now we just need a few more locals with a bit of spare time on their hands every now and then to add their club newsletter or just tell the community what they are up to.
Shoalhaven Heads has a fair number of clubs and groups and I’m sure - in this modern age with most people having a computer - this is an ideal way to quickly get their news across.
SHOALHAVEN HEADS SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB
FISHING CLUB : Fishing News December ‘08
On Sunday 30th Oct. Shoalhaven Heads Sports and Social/ Fishing Club held their October and Christmas Weigh In.
The food was wonderful. Ham as good as you would ever taste and lovely greens, rice and garden salads prepared by the ladies of the club were delicious. As can be seen by John Crane (right) feeding his face. June Franks made a Rumbaba pudding which has now become famous in The Heads and anyone who tasted it will tell you it is sensational, so contact June and she will supply the recipe.

I just finished reading the Rev Bird’s article in our local newsletter where he cites the book
Darwin on Trial and seems to be a proponent of Intelligent Design (I think, I’m not sure exactly what point he was trying to make, but he does mention ‘the accomplishments of intelligent design’ in the article).
I have quite different views on the subject of religion and this isn’t the place to discuss or promote them as I’ve always believed ‘each to his own’ and providing that believers stick to quoting the bible (or whichever holy book they claim to be written by their particular god) and not pretending to discuss ‘pseudo science’, then I don’t have a problem at all.
Most ‘family church goers’ and the vast majority of mainstream christians are as appalled at the I.D nonsense as non-believers are. There’s no conflict in most christian’s believing in their religion and also understanding and accepting that natural selection and evolution are the cornerstone of our understanding of how life came to be on the planet. Many don’t accept that the original ’spark of life’ could also have come about by purely natural means - they believe in a supernatural event at the very beginning. Again, I don’t have a problem with them believing that either. Science has yet to fully explain the phenomenon - but science may be getting close. read more…
As you may know, this site is run on a shoe string and administered entirely by one person… me, the Admin. Feedback has been received along the lines of
‘how come the coming events don’t include xxx’ (add your own event here)?
The answer is - time. I simply don’t have enough of it. I need someone locally who has a bit of time on his or her hands to help with this. Honestly, adding and editing events on this site isn’t rocket science and it would only take me an hour to tutor a complete beginner in the procedure.
So, what about it? If you believe the site is worth keeping current - then why not offer some help? I’d love to share the load!

I noticed that the surf club live camera has been updated recently with one that auto-pans and zooms across the whole beach. Great idea! I send the link to friends and relatives so they can see how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful spot.
Check out the links page from the menu, it’s on there.
Yes, that’s not a misprint. I just popped into my favourite local independent petrol station -
Shoalhaven Ethanol Fuel at 215 Kinghorne St and they have ‘E85′ Ethanol fuel on sale at
$1.05 a litre (they also had E10 Unleaded for $1.63 which compared pretty well with Friday prices in the rest of the stations in Nowra today!). Now, E85 is 85% ethanol, 15% unleaded petrol and before you throw up your hands in horror at the thought of running your vehicle on 85% (or any mixture of ethanol) - get the real facts
here.

Edit Aug’08 :
Has anybody else in the ‘Heads noticed an improvement in the GSM service from Telstra? We are now able to hold a conversation if we sit in the lounge of our place without calls dropping out - amazing! I can’t take any credit for this interesting development but I have heard that the NextG service power levels have been turned down a notch as it was interferring with the GSM service in some areas. Maybe the reason… read more…
